Online Indian Series You Should Binge Watch Right Now!

This year has been better than ever for the world of online series from Netflix catching up high on Indian releases to Amazon breaking norms with every series they launch. The shows have been filter-less.

We are living in a generation who cannot wait for anything, gone past the days where we waited for the next episode and glued our heads completely for an hour, bared all the ads in between.

Now, we cannot wait to finish the entire series at one go. Binge watching is the new weekend set plan and “Netflix and chill” is not just a pickup line any more.

Delhi Crime

Netflix unveiled their seven-part anthology series directed by Richie Mehta – ‘Delhi Crime.’ A series based on a hideous incident happened in Delhi(2012) popularly known as the Nirbhaya case. Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Gopal Datt, and Vinod Sherawat play important roles. Nirbhaya and her friend were tortured, abused and gang-raped in a moving bus by 6 men which led to never seen before protests and the chaotic upset crowd. The story follows the determination of the police authorities in finding the criminals led by Varthika Chaturvedi (Shefali Shah). It’s heartbreaking, but a strong series that is definitely a must watch.

Made in Heaven

Amazon Primes most popular show is based out of the life surrounding weddings that involve a lot of glitz and glam. The series offers a critical glance about what exactly happens behind these curtains of Perfect Occasions. Every episode has a different wedding which they shed some light on, and all are based on different north Indian regions. Directors Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Nitya Mehra, Alankrita Shrivastava and Prashant Nair opened each episode up with a different reality- religion to impotency. And overall the show also highlighted the main characters and their stories. Unhappy marriages, cheating, gay rights are some of  the topics that have been enlightened in the world of weddings, and most importantly the life after “The Wedding Day”.

Four More Shots Please

The 10-episode series features Kirti Kulhari, Sayani Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo and Bani J in the lead roles, supported by renowned artists that includes Milind Soman, Lisa Ray, Prateik Babbar, Neil Bhoopalam, Simone Singh and Amrita Puri. The show’s headlining female cast is backed by an all-women crew. The shows revolves around how these 4 women meet and unveil their week’s stress or happiness in a bar called the “Truck Bar”. From leaving their Ex-husband to dating interns, from struggling to be accepted by one boy to rejecting her dream proposal, from being a founder of her own journalism firm to losing everything, from hailing from the tiniest village in Punjab to dating her Crush who is a “Bollywood’s lead actress, Four More Shots Please touches on a lot of interesting areas of life. These girls have performed so brilliantly that the show has been widely accepted by the youth.

These above series have not only crossed the censor board limits but also increased the width of thoughts of the viewers. All of us see reality, but don’t accept it. Gone are the days to just see the cliched girl meets boy stories. These shows invokes the principle that the  reality of happiness or struggle should not be filtered in the world of Cinema or series. We are totally looking forward to more and more of similar genre stories.
