However, “Jhinga” typically refers to prawns or shrimp in Indian cuisine. “Timbri” could be a regional or local name or a specific preparation style. Timbri marinated prawns grilled on sigdi, then smoked, served along with pea shoot salad and bhang jeera chutney on the side. Kathal Baigan Bharta: To prepare this dish, the jackfruit and eggplant are typically roasted or grilled until they’re soft and charred on the outside. Then, the skin is removed, and the flesh is mashed or finely chopped. Together with her late husband Carl Apfel, Apfel founded and managed Old World Weavers, a global fabric production company, in 1950 before referring to herself as a “geriatric starlet” as a result of the Met display. At the time, the couple was newlywed, and they were married for 68 years. The husband-and-wife team ran Old World Weavers until 1992, during which time they provided services to nine White House administrations, from Harry Truman to Bill Clinton. According to Apfel in her book, she was dubbed “First Lady of Fabric” or “Our Lady of the Cloth” during her tenure at the White House. After over a century in the industry, Apfel’s words of wisdom about ageing, individuality, and success are still valuable to read, even if you have no interest in bright, daring fashion. These are Apfel’s ten success secrets, as detailed in her most recent book: 1. Don’t let your age consume you “I don’t ever consider my age. That might be the solution. It’s a fleeting concept that I seldom give much thought to. It’s only a figure. Working is incredibly healthy for me, I’ve discovered. She states, “I put my heart and soul into what I do because I love it.” 2. Choose a companion who gives you joy when you succeed. Apfel describes Carl, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 100, as “everyone he ever touched knows he was truly a gentleman.” “His generosity and sense of humour were legendary.” Nearly everything was done in tandem with us. This book is a result of his encouragement and steadfast support. He thrust me into the spotlight and then took pleasure in my accomplishments. The praise I received thrilled him far more than it did me. I really, really miss him. Rest well, my dear prince. 3. Take action when something thrills you. “I never thought my name or face would be recognised by so many people. I never thought I’d be referred to as a fashion icon. I never thought my clothes and accessories would be on display in museums. I never thought that I would be the face of a cosmetics firm and a cover lady in my nineties. Apfel pens. “I had no expectations at all. I just act on gut instinct and intuition. I act on anything that piques my attention and I find intriguing; I worry about it afterwards. It takes a lot of strength and energy to try new things. 4. “You have to think young in order to stay young.” “As you age, odds are that if you have two things, one of them will hurt when you get up in the morning, to quote an old family friend. However, you have to get up and go past the discomfort. You have to think young if you want to stay youthful. Sensations of amazement, humour, and curiosity are what she refers to as her “tonic.” 5. Put your own viewpoint ahead of everyone else’s “My goal was never to blend in. I didn’t intentionally set out to be a rebel or engage in activities that were taboo; regrettably, I had to learn how to play bridge when I was younger. Rather, I discovered early on that in order to be happy, I needed to be true to myself. 6. However, don’t withdraw either This is crucial: I understand that I am part of the larger picture, to use a line from poet, Mr. John Donne. Though in my own unique manner. I believe I’ve been doing something right since I’ve never been much of a conformist on any front and it hasn’t hurt me in my ninety-odd years. But forget it if you don’t make an effort to participate. That’s when your uniqueness will come back to haunt you. First, blend in, and then make a move. 7. Success is not a product of money Being content, in love, surrounded by kind people, doing what you enjoy, and giving back to the community are all characteristics of success. According to Apfel, the true cost of selling your soul for a dollar is not worth it. 8. Style has nothing to do with money. “Costume is not the definition of style. You can be extremely wealthy and completely lacking in style. You can appear like a Christmas tree by dressing in the newest couture, wearing shoes for ten thousand dollars, and accessorising to the hilt. “Your style matters more than what you wear.” 9. Take one modest step towards new endeavours. According to Apfel, “You only fail if you do not try.” “I never believed that being a woman would prevent me from accomplishing my goals. I merely worked out how to establish a fabric business because that was my desire. Had I given Old World Weavers too much attention, I doubt that I would have followed through on my dream. With high hopes fueled by their reputation and numerous branches across Hyderabad, I anticipated a positive experience. However, what transpired during my time at the clinic was far from satisfactory. From unprofessionalism to blatant lies and mismanagement, my encounter with the Layers Clinic in Bengaluru was nothing short of disheartening. Allow me to shed light on the series of unfortunate events that unfolded during my visit, urging caution to those considering their services. Unprofessionalism at its peak: The staff’s level of indifference during my visit to the Layers clinic in Bengaluru completely shocked me. The visit was pre-planned, and the appointment was confirmed and re-confirmed multiple times through calls and WhatsApp messages regarding my appointment. But the disaster started to unfold right from the moment I arrived at the clinic. As soon as I walked in, it was clear that professionalism was not a priority. The staff seemed disinterested and lacked basic courtesy, making me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Even though my appointment was confirmed prior, on arrival they said that I could not get through with the appointment on that day. My disappointment was turning to rage when they mentioned later on that I could get only the consultation, not the treatment. I couldn’t bear the fact that I was being put on hold for something that was costing me my quality time as well. Lies and manipulation: Furthermore, I came to realize that the clinic’s information was blatantly false and deceptive, shattering my trust. Promises made during consultations were not upheld, and instead, I was misled into believing unrealistic outcomes. It’s disheartening to see a clinic resort to such deceitful tactics, eroding the trust of their clients. Even though I was given two coupons worth 5000 INR as a PR courtesy, I was gorged out for a service that cost me more than what was required with an expenditure bill at the cost of my skin and professional life. With high hopes fueled by their reputation and numerous branches across Hyderabad, I anticipated a positive experience. However, what transpired during my time at the clinic was far from satisfactory. From unprofessionalism to blatant lies and mismanagement, my encounter with the Layers Clinic in Bengaluru was nothing short of disheartening. Allow me to shed light on the series of unfortunate events that unfolded during my visit, urging caution to those considering their services. Denied Appointed Treatment: The treat at the Layers Clinic has completely spoiled my face. . But the shocking part is that I was convinced to take this treatment—a skin-lightening treatment—instead of the one that I planned out with them in the beginning: laser hair removal treatment and a Hydra facial. According to the doctor herself, they initially refused to treat me because the rooms were already full. However, after I demanded an explanation, they agreed to treat me to a room with some fumes. Once the treatment was almost half done, I was told that I would have my facial hair turn white along with redness on the skin. I was okay with the redness part, but to a person who has never even bleached her skin before, this was to be told during the consultation itself. It was mentioned to me after half the treatment that it would have left the color of my facial hair white as a wall. A Disaster in Management: To my surprise, they charged me 8500 INR for the treatment, which is 3999 INR posted online. I reprimanded them for all the disasters that happened with me through emails, and I asked for an apology from the doctor when they tried bribing me to keep the matter neutral. To add insult to injury, the management of Layers Clinic in Bengaluru is nothing short of a disaster. No apology has been returned from the clinic, and I have been awaiting an answer for one month. Appointments were delayed without any explanation, and the overall organization seemed chaotic. It’s evident that there’s a severe lack of leadership and direction, resulting in a chaotic environment that does more harm than good. Learning from My Experience: Through my disappointing encounter at Layers Clinic Bengaluru, I’ve learned a valuable lesson that I’d like to share with fellow readers. It’s crucial to thoroughly research and vet any service provider, especially when it comes to matters as sensitive as skin treatments. Don’t solely rely on the reputation of a brand or the number of branches it has. Take the time to read reviews, ask for recommendations, and inquire about the credentials and experience of the staff. This could become a matter of life and death. Pro Tip: Before undergoing any procedure, ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of what to expect, including potential side effects and post-treatment care. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and voice any concerns you may have. Additionally, request to see before-and-after photos of previous clients who have undergone similar treatments. This will give you a realistic expectation of the results and help you make an informed decision. Remember, your health and well-being should always be a top priority, so don’t settle for anything less than the highest standards of professionalism and transparency.
