Set Design and Costume in Heeramandi

Set Design:

  • Opulent and Extravagant: Since it’s a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, the sets of Heeramandi are sure to be elaborate akin to his previous movies and the film is based on the era of British Raj so the grandeur will be there.
  • Intricate Details: Don’t be surprised for beautiful carving, rich furniture, and bright color which would make the ambience of the place very appealing.
  • Contrasting Worlds: The sets could have been between the lavish life of the brothel, and the rather dreary setting of the time, post-British colonization where the class difference is well depicted.
  • Historical Accuracy: In a bid to ensure realism, therefore, the set design and some structures in the play must be designed to use aspects of the historical periods and common architectural designs during the British Raj.

Costume Design:

  • Period-Accurate Attire: The costumes will without doubt reflect the post’s fashion aesthetic, presenting the ornate and rich garments typical of the revered persons such as courtesans and other elites.
  • Vibrant Colors and Fabrics: Prepare to be overwhelmed with an atmosphere of bright colors, luxurious textiles and ornate embroidering to represent the lustful atmosphere of the brothel.
  • Cultural Influences: Some elements of the costumes might be originally Indian, Persian or even Mughal thus reflecting the demographics of the area.
