In an interview with Filmfare, she shared her feelings about working with Vikrant Massey and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. During the audition, she had no idea about the film or her role. The screen test with Chopra and Massey boosted her confidence. Shankar felt connected to the experiences portrayed in the book.
