David Dhawan revealed that he intentionally took a strict approach with his son, Varun Dhawan, during their first collaboration. Varun, introduced to the film industry by Karan Johar and familiar with a specific working style from his time assisting Karan on My Name is Khan, was initially considered by David and his wife, Lalli, for a potential bank career. David recalled asking Varun what he wanted to do after studying abroad, with Lalli suggesting a banking job due to its popularity. Varun surprised them by expressing a desire to assist Karan Johar, leading to his eventual hiring for My Name is Khan, thanks to a recommendation from cameraman Ravi Chandran. In a chat with Arbaaz Khan on The Invincibles Series, David shared that Karan Johar wanted to launch Varun, leading to a photoshoot with Sidharth Malhotra. Despite Varun’s occasional frustration, David encouraged him, praising his confidence and urging him to embrace the opportunity.
