MODAK (UKADICHE MODAK)
Ingredients Quantity
Water 100 grams
Jaggery 50 grams
Grated Fresh Coconut 50 grams
Roasted Poppy Seeds 30 grams
Roasted Sesame Seeds 30 grams
Mixed Chopped Nuts 50 grams
Cardamom Pods 10 grams
FOR DOUGH
Water 50 grams
Ghee 50 grams
Salt 20 grams
Sugar 30 grams
Rice Flour 100 grams
Method:
- Roast the poppy seeds and sesame seeds. Set it aside.
- Melt the jaggery in a saucepan. Add ghee so that it melts well and doesn’t stick to the pan. After the jaggery melts, add in the freshly grated coconut.
- Then add the roasted poppy seeds and roasted sesame seeds.
- Top it with the nuts and crushed cardamom. Garnish it with crushed cardamom and nuts.
- Stir well and the stuffing is ready.
- Take a pan, add a cup of water, and let it boil.
- Add 1 tsp. of salt, sugar, and ghee.
- Next, add the rice flour to the mixture, and mix well.
- Cook it until the mixture gets thick.
- For dough, take the rice flour on a flat surface, by slowly adding a little water and ghee whenever needed.
- Once it is smooth, make sure the dough should not break. It shall be good for the modaks.
- Take a steamer, add water, let the water boil and in the meantime let’s make the modaks.
- Make the handmade Modak shape or use Modak mold, fill the stuffing, and close. Bring out of the modak.
- Once all the modaks are done, place them on the steamer and put banana leaves or muslin cloth on the bottom of the steamer. Steam the modaks in medium flame for about 15-20 mins.
- Serve the modak with melted ghee.
