LAKME FASHION WEEK 2018 – Day 5

The day we’ve all been waiting for, the 5^th day of the Lakme Fashion week, is here. This day, one of the most iconic designers presented their collections. The grand finale was a showcase by Monisha Jaising. We analyzed all the days of the show to put forth the best for our viewers.

1) ‘Unchartered’ by Tahweave

‘Unchartered’ by Tahweave has drawn its inspiration from the Irish culture and their vibrant colors. The fabrics used in this collection are hand-woven. They have unique cuts and subtle embroidery, making the garments stylish yet comfortable. This line of fashion is all about rich culture meet luxury. Their garments are so fluid that they fit perfectly into a celeb’s everyday closet.

2) Nakita Singh

Nakita Singh takes her inspiration from travel and nature. The collection focuses on creating fashion that is relaxed yet has a contemporary vibe. She achieves this by incorporating doodle sketch embroidery, an earthy color palette and hand-loom fabrics, in her garments. Inspired by travel, they have taken inspiration from the vast lush scenery that they came across from their travels around Bengal.

3) “The Circles of Wisdom’ by Soumodeep Dutta

‘The Circles of Wisdom’, a collection by Soumodeep Dutta, was showcased at LFW W/F’18. He takes inspiration from the analogies of life and the lotus in Buddhism. Hand-looms from Odisha and Bengal featuring Ikat motifs and Kantha embroidery give the collection an earthy yet festive appeal. The attires instantly sets an impression of Indian fusion. They were made with such fun cuts, and it is draped in a different manner.

4) Nupur Kanoi

Label Nupur Kanoi specializes in handcrafted luxury women’s clothing, using high quality natural fabrics, intensive embroideries and detailing. At present, they have two women’s wear lines – Pret and Indian.

Nupur Kanoi’s W/F’18 collection ‘Protea’ is inspired by the common yet unusual bloom of Cape Town, a city set against a multicultural backdrop with large European and Indian settlements. The collection features vibrant and intricate glass bead-work in geometric floral patterns paired with native botanical prints.

5) Jayanthi Reddy

The Jayanti Reddy label infuses traditional clothing with a unique style and understated elegance. She spread glamour on the stage with her subtle pastel color garments that had intricate detailing. Aditi Rao Hydari was the show stopper in a heavy versatile lehenga.

Jayanti Reddy’s W/F’18 collection ‘The Twilight Zone’ captures the fleeting magical moment before the day ends and night begins through whimsical pieces that are entirely functional and utterly wearable.

6) Punit Balana

Radhika Apte

Punit Balana is drawn towards traditional embroideries and textile of Rajasthan, due to which he reinterprets these in various fabrics, textures and concepts.

Jim Sarbh

Punit Balana’s W/F’18 collection ‘Gulabi Chowk’ is inspired by the pride of the pink city Jaipur, the magnificent Amer Fort along with the unexpected beauty and charm of the Jalebi Chowk and the Sheesh Mahal. Signature hand-block prints and dramatic silhouettes make the collection a stylish expression of comfort and creativity.

7) Neha Agarwal

Kiara Alia Advani walks the ramp as a show stopper in a breath-taking piece.

‘Agami’ by Neha Agarwal presented her collection Pushtaini at the LFW W/F’18. Indo-Western High-End Pret and Couture Women’s-Wear Garments with a twist in surface texturing and embellishments, thus, enhancing stylish cuts and edgy eccentric design sensibilities.

‘Pushtaini’ is inspired by the age-old art of Madhubani. The collection merges Indian art and fashion with innovation in surface ornamentation by reinventing Zardozi embroidery in contemporary patterns. At 3:30pm, one of the most talented designers in India came forward to showcase her designs-

8) Ritu Kumar

Design and heritage in India is a product of skills and wisdom passed down the generations. Ritu Kumar has always welcomed this heritage.

Label Ritu Kumar’s theme for W/F’18 is ‘Native Spirit’ – an ode to nature and the great outdoors. It blends elements of tribal art from Native American Inca’s with the romance of the wild-west. The collection features an earthy color palette and introduces rustic charm through modern details.

9) ‘Samurai’ by Siddhesh Chauhan

Sonu Sood, the show stopper for his collection.

He is immensely inspired by architecture, music, sentiments and traditional diversity which en routes him to create contemporary designs for the new age man. He strongly believes in the immortality of art and design plus notes that an exceptional design is the one which influences the subject in whatever way possible.

‘Samurai’ showcases a contemporary take on the Samurai with surface ornamentation techniques and asymmetrical silhouettes.

“One cannot abide without the other. The new and mysterious can only be reborn when the old shackles are torn. A New you is born every day. Everything on a larger scale is design, Contradictions are real and so Balance Is The Key.”

10) Disha Patil

Diana Penty

Disha Patil pays homage to the art of creation by invoking Tvastr – the Hindu artisan deity and the physical form of creativity through heirloom pieces. Her pret line is making waves across India due to its great finish, excellent cuts, exquisite embellishment and embroidery. Her creations are always an ideal choice for festive and wedding occasions. Be it a fabulous lehenga for engagement or an inspiring gown for your reception, Disha Patil collections is here to make you feel fabulous and glamorous for all your special events.

11) Mishru

Lisa Haydon, the show stopper for this collection, wearing a piece of garment that will strike a spark.

Mishru’s W/F’18 collection ‘Supernova’ that juxtaposes power dressing (think: strong capes and blazers) with unabashed femininity at Lakmé Fashion Week W/F’18.

12) aLL Primero by Narendra Kumar presents ‘Never Hyde’

‘Never Hyde’, a collaboration between designer Narendra Kumar and India’s leading Plus Size Store aLL Primero empowers men and women of all sizes. The collection at Lakmé Fashion Week showcased leisurewear, day and evening wear in striking silhouettes and comfortable fabrics.

What a great thought! All designers must try and cater to the different possibilities in the crowd, not just stick to the hourglass shapes. This is such an inspiration in this generation.

13) Gaurav Katta

Kalki walked the ramp in a plunging neckline gown.

Jaipur based designer Gaurav Katta celebrates Rajwaras of Rajasthan depicting their courage and valor in a very dramatic manner. The designer intends to create the ambiance of a Rajwari darbar of Rajasthan.

14) Sanjukta Dutta

Sanjukta is of the singular belief that clothing is not just a piece of cloth but a key and integral part of every human being and their identity.

Esha Deol

Sanjukta Dutta, an Assamese designer par excellence, creates a unique combination of clubbing traditions of different geographic areas in one garment.

15) Julie by Julie Shah

Homage to the new age women

Inspired by the true, deep beauty of women, Julie is a luxury apparel brand boasting a wide collection of Prêt Line, Evening Wear, Bridal Couture, Resort Wear, and Luxe Festive Wear.
