“Oppenheimer” will be released theatrically in Japan in 2024, according to Bitters End, the Japanese distributor. The decision was made after months of dialogue considering the sensitivity of the subject matter. The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, explores the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb,” and the development of the weapon during World War II. Despite being released in most territories and generating over $950 million, there were doubts about its theatrical release in Japan.
