India Cocktail Week Shakes & Stirs Bengaluru’s Nightlife Scene

It was a celebration of all things cocktails, with engaging experiences at many bustling venues during the India Cocktail Week! After a stellar New Delhi edition, India Cocktail Week, the biggest celebration of the country’s burgeoning cocktail culture, launched in Bengaluru from the 21st of February to the 1st March 2020 and it was bigger than ever! It is a festival that brought together some of the best bars and restaurants to offer their signature drinks, at a special price throughout the week. The week culminated into a two-day Cocktail Village on February 29 & March 1 with live entertainment, artisanal liquor tastings, curated food offerings and so much more. India Cocktail Week was a 10-day long extended festival, offering diverse cocktail menus at a special price by 25+ leading bars of Bengaluru. It was a great chance for tipplers to visit a new bar and try a new cocktail, spirit or flavour, alongside week-long bar activations, international collaborations, masterclasses, brunches, pop-ups, workshops, secret tastings, cocktail crawls and other experiences, held at various venues across the city. The Cocktail Week culminated into a two-day Cocktail Village on the weekend at the Prince of Wales Lawns, Taj West End, Bengaluru melding cocktail and spirit experiences with music & gastronomical delights. It was an immersive maze of pop-up cocktail bars, experiences, brand showcases, entertainment, international bartender guest shifts, curated food stalls and much more! International and home-grown brands like Absolut, Aperol, Bacardi, Beefeater, Bombay Sapphire, Campari, Cointreau, Gordon’s, Grants Distinction, Greater Than, Jameson, Johnnie Walker, Kahlua, Ketel One, Martini, Monkey Shoulder, Monkey47, Simba, Svami Drinks and Red Bull had their own pop-ups and experiences at the Cocktail Village. To add to the vibe, there was an exciting line-up of artists performing live such as BLOT!, Taba Chake, DJ Kan-i, Kampai and many more. The highly anticipated International bars popped up in Bengaluru included The Old Man, Singapore, ranked #38 in World’s Best Bars and The Rabbit Hole from Bangkok, ranked #34 in Asia’s Best Bars. This festival offered never seen before cocktail experiences at leading venues in the city, along with access to some of the best and most loved bars across the globe. Music is by Amod Bhatt. “Piya Behrupiya” was among the 37 plays from 35 countries commissioned by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre as a part of its Globe to Globe festival in ’11. A musical extravaganza with an extremely talented ensemble cast and loosely based on the Nautanki style of theatre, the play became an instant hit. After the standing ovations and critical acclaim in Globe, the play has continued its dream run in India and abroad. It has been among the most popular shows in Ranga Shankara. The cast of the play include talented actors like Geetanjali Kulkarni, Mansi Multani, Neha Saraf, Titas Dutta, Sudheer Rikhari, Mantra Mugdha, Saurabh Nayyar, Gagandev Singh Riar and Dhruv Lohumi. Singing Workshop: The musicians and singers of Piya Behrupiya will conduct a workshop to teach the songs from the play to children aged 8 to 15. Whitefield Art Collective (WAC), the award-winning public art initiative, inaugurated its month long fifth edition on Friday. WAC 2020 encourages creative explorations around the theme of “sustainability”, through partnerships with leading institutions and notable individuals from the artistic community. Collaborators this year included JD Institute of Fashion Technology and Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology. JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore showcased an exclusive fashion show choreographed by Rahul Dev Shetty, on the theme “Wearable Art”. WAC 2020 encourages creative explorations around the theme of “Sustainability”. The association with JD Institute of Fashion Technology, included segments on Art Flute, Indian Garbage Collective, The Broke Artist Collective, Aravani Arts Project, and Synesthesia Collective. WAC 2020 is supported by Yuj Kutumb, The Yog Foundation. VR Bengaluru as part of its Connecting Communities© initiative that aims to encourage civic pride, strengthen the local economy and enhance the city’s national and international image, will be the primary venue partner. Bose Krishnamachari, President, Kochi Biennale Foundation inaugurated the festival by unveiling the annual VR Art Car, painted this year by the Bengaluru based women and trans-women art collective – Aravani Art Project. The unveiling was followed by a fireside chat between Bose and WAC Curator Sumi Gupta, at the Living Room of The Waverly. The inaugural event culminated with “Wearable Art” – a show by JD Institute of Fashion Technology at Skydeck. Sumi Gupta, Curator of the festival said, “I am thrilled to steer this fantastic public initiative in its fifth year. This edition of WAC has incredible collaborations with institutions and student artists from across Bengaluru, creating a vibrant platform for large-scale installations & sculptures. Over the next month, WAC 2020 will bring together a community of connoisseurs, art students, patrons, and the citizens of Bengaluru in a celebration of the city’s art and culture.” Special guests at the inauguration included senior artist Seema Kohli, Director, Writer & Producer, Shonali Bose and author Sreemoyee Piu Kundu. From tomorrow, visitors will enjoy a dedicated month of artistic immersion during which VR Bengaluru, the venue partner will be a hub of activity, with installations, exhibitions, an art bazaar, art cinema screenings, art workshops, a children’s art competition and several other exciting events. Day two of WAC 2020 saw a panel discussion moderated by ‘Sreemoyee Piu Kundu with panelists Sumi Gupta, Shonali Bose, Shonali Bose, Director, Writer, Producer and Seema Kohli – Contemporary Artist on the topic of “Women in Art”. This was also the first episode of Season 2, part of the ongoing Salon with Sree series held in association with the Whitefield Literary Society. Billed as a show designed to reinforce Bengaluru’s position as one of India’s premier art destinations, visitors will enjoy a dedicated month of artistic immersion during which VR Bengaluru will be a hub of activity. Lined up are installations, exhibitions, an art dessert bazaar, an art bazaar, art cinema screenings, art workshops, a children’s art competition and several other exciting events. Getting the young brains on board, WAC 2020 will get The Art Yard kicking with children aged six and above invited to transform waste from their homes into works of art. They could add their creations to the larger installation and grab that opportunity to look beyond ‘use and throw.’ That way, the young talents would be giving a big push to creative alternatives that banks on repurpose and reuse. One of the most talented stand-up comedians to debut his autobiography was in conversation with Shreya Krishnan, a gender activist. The duo spoke about on his show Naked, his stand-up comedy, on how he got into comedy, what scares him, social media and loneliness, his Happiness Project and everything else about his life and more. Papa CJ said, “Naked is the story of my life and the book has given me the opportunity to create an enriching experience to the audience by including anecdotes from life and layers of emotion that a stand-up comedy stage would not allow me the luxury of.
