Berlin Fashion Week 2024

Continued… Beyond the Runway: Berlin Fashion Week Berlin Fashion Week: It is more than just a beautiful, lively catwalk. It is one of the main platforms within the industry for networking purposes, cooperation, and the exchange of ideas. Here comes the inside view of some major happenings that unfolded parallel to the stunning presentations: Press and Sales Showrooms: The showrooms provided the center of activities within a number of art galleries and industrial lofts spread across the city. Here, veteran and new brands flashed their newest collections to a carefully edited audience of buyers, editors, and influencers. Really, this was good for designers trying to get their work out there and secure some very key business relationships. Talks and Panels: BFW provided a platform for discourse on issues ranging from the future of sustainable practices in the production of fashion to dynamic retail transforming and the influence of social media. From the industry experts through designers, sustainability advocates, and academics to the very last one, all had a say on these critical matters, stimulating very exciting idea exchanges. One of the engaging panel discussions covered the challenges faced. The Berlin Fashion Week After Party: As the last runway shows closed, energy shifted to a glamorous after-party. Moving to a very happening club in Mitte, this then afforded guests a great opportunity to really unwind, toast to the week’s success, and network in an atmosphere much less formal. The music pulsed across the dance floor as the guests mingled and exchanged business cards. Relationships, established designers mixed in with rising stars, forged toward future collaboration. An after-party befittingly rounded off the week that whirled by in creativity and innovation in its celebration. A Glimpse into the Future of Fashion Berlin Fashion Week 2024 served as a resounding success. It showcased the city’s thriving fashion scene, its unwavering commitment to sustainability, and its dedication to nurturing the next generation of design talent. Sustainability is Here to Stay: Sustainability guidelines in the fashion industry is one palpable change underway. This season, BFW really proved well that eco-friendly practices can coexist with design without essentially questioning aesthetic values and quality. Diversity and Inclusivity Take Center Stage: Runway collections turned into an event that spoke volumes of several body types, ethnicities, and gender identities. Only this goes on to show the increasing need for fashion to be inclusive and representative of the kind of world in which we live. Berlin: A Hub for Innovation: Berlin Fashion Week really hit the nail on the head for Berlin as an international stronghold in style. With its artistic energy and an entrepreneurial spirit all its own, it has fostered that continuous surge of new and bold design talent. With the exception of the above-mentioned events, BFW prepared a great deal of side events, pop-up shops, and installations scattered throughout the whole city—from street style photography exhibitions to interactive workshops on sustainable garment care. Really, something for everyone. Berlin Fashion Week 2024 proved that it is exactly this creative vibe and undying commitment that keep moving this city towards the future of fashion A Look Beyond the Established Names Of course, more established designers like Karen Jessen and William Fan also had strong statements in the spotlight. Still, most of Berlin Fashion Week’s bread and butter remains laid in its continuous rising of fresh new talent, with fast growth and diversification. Take a closer look at some of the emerging stars that came out of the event: StudioHeast: This Berlin-based collective of fresh graduates from the famed Universität der Künste Berlin delivered a very conceptual collection with overtures of social commentary and deconstruction. Their catwalk show, held in a disused industrial space in Friedrichshain, could be read as performance art rather than a simple runway presentation. VMR Berlin: A brand from two childhood friends, Vanessa Maria Roiger and Maja Lena Schmitz—blurred the line between streetwear and high fashion. Their show, which was held in one of the more fashionable bars of Prenzlauer Berg, pitted worn, gigantic hoodies and sweatpants against elegant silk slip dresses and tailored blazers. NOD: This independent label, the enigmatic designer behind whom goes only by the name “N,” presented a strong collection driven by minimalist sensibilities with great strength shown for monochromatic hues. Functionality came to the fore in clean-line garments in a show held in a minimum-art gallery space in Mitte.  These are just a few examples of the exciting new talents that captivated audiences at Berlin Fashion Week. Their unique perspectives and innovative approaches to design contribute to the richness and diversity of the Berlin fashion. A Lasting Legacy Berlin Fashion Week 2024—energetic, sustainable, and full of support for emerging talent—is written in the annals of fashion history. It became a platform where creativity, innovation, and social commentary shaped the future of fashion in very exciting, sometimes unexpected ways. Going beyond the catwalks and industry gatherings, Berlin Fashion Week revealed that fashion has a very dynamic, changing relationship with society.

Danny Reinke Berlin Fashion Week 2024 – STUPID CUPID

Danny Reinke Berlin Fashion Week 2024 – STUPID CUPID

At BERLIN FASHION WEEK, Danny Reinke presented his spring/summer collection 2025 as part of the COLLECTIVE FOUR event. Its title “Stupid Cupid” is a tribute to the emotional turmoil of unrequited love. This prêt-à-couture collection is a fashionable emotional rollercoaster of women’s and men’s looks that addresses the contradiction of hopeless infatuation – when what is close seems so far away, when desire paradoxically ignites through rejection instead of extinguishing. At first glance, the creations appear romantically playful, but on closer inspection they reveal the deeply hidden pain of unrequited love. STUPID CUPID – I’m lost in you alone Spring / Summer Collection 2025 The title and inspiration for the collection theme is a piece of music by the singer Connie Francis from the late 1950s. With the appearance of exhilaration, the artist sings of this one great love that seems to be forever denied to us – a love that is accompanied more by sadness and anger than by the hoped-for security and happiness. “Stupid Cupid you’re a real mean guy. I’d like to clip your wings so you can’t fly. I’m in love and it’s a crying shame. And I know that you’re the one to blame.” – From ‘Stupid Cupid’ by Connie Francis, 1958 The heart of this emotional SS25 collection is made up of vibrant red tones in various shades. In combination with grey, black, white and lime green, the contrasting colour palette is used primarily for heavy fabrics. Other central elements are the high-quality corsets, which are intended to symbolise the emptiness and constriction of the dominant feeling of heartbreak. Like the collection title, which can be traced back to Connie Francis, other allusions to the 1950s also make up an essential part of the collection. A contemporary interpretation of the dandy look combines puffy bow blouses, pencil skirts, and voluminous tulle petticoats with tuxedo shirts, as well as suspenders, sock holders, and Spencer jackets. Recycled leather, which gives the collection a certain hardness and robustness, forms a symbiosis with elaborate draping, which in turn subtly recalls Greco-Roman antiquity with all its mythology and the god of love Armor, who originated from it. Tangled, three-dimensional flower structures on a jaquette made of pure white fabric convey a feeling of chaos, while crochet elements add a humorous touch to the play with appearance and reality. The Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy, and Enterprises supports Collective Four as an official participant in Berlin Fashion Week in association with the Fashion Council Germany.

Berlin Fashion Week 2024: A Celebration of Rising Stars (July 1-4)

Between July 1st and 4th, 2024, Berlin’s streets crackled with the electric energy of Berlin Fashion Week. This biannual event secured the city’s place in a world fashion powerhouse, parading established icons and the next generation of exciting voices. Beyond the iconic Brandenburg Gate, one stepped into a whirlwind of mesmerizing runway shows, intimate presentations, and industry gatherings that pulsated with creative energy.   Berlin Fashion Week—Commitment to a Sustainable Future One of the most influential changes that the BFW introduces this year is its adaptation of the demanding Copenhagen Fashion Week sustainability criteria. This change reflects the movement of the entire world towards a more environmentally-friendly way of fashion consumption. From responsibly sourced materials such as organic cotton and recycled synthetics to innovative upcycling techniques and responsible production methods, sustainability was not a trend—it was a base on which so many collections stood. This commitment could be felt even within the sacred walls of the “Berlin Salon,” a platform of established designers who have clearly warmed up to sustainability. Among them is Karen Jessen, well-known for creating timeless, elegant pieces from environmentally friendly materials, who unveiled her latest collection in the beautifully appointed Feuerle Collection space—a haven for contemporary art within the lively streets of Kreuzberg. Guests stepped inside to find Jessen’s signature silhouettes – sharp blazers, flowing dresses – reimagined in sumptuous, environmentally responsible fabrics playing witness to the talent of this designer in marrying style with sustainability A Launchpad for Rising Stars BFW has always been an advocate for young designers, and this year was no exception. It was through the “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week” platform that this rather varied selection of emerging talents was furnished with a much needed launchpad, each with their story to tell through the clothes. New kid on the block Avenir did amaze with its bold take on tailoring; bold cuts and innovative textiles really formed the heart of their collection, further pushing the very boundaries of conventional garment construction. Their show, held within the renovated industrial warehouse in Mitte, Berlin, was a feast of lights and emotion, with dramatic lighting that brought out all the intricate details of every piece. The energy almost pulsed to the pounding strides of the models cat walking in outfits that were manifestos for bold individuality.   Showstopping Spectacles: Runway Highlights The week was very much packed with show-stopping presentations of trendy casual wear to haute couture after the showcases. A closer look at some of those mentioned below that captured the essence of BFW 2024 includes: William Fan: This Berlin-based designer, known for his avant-garde creations, had a collection that defied categorization. Held in a former East German cinema, it was a theatrical display. Dramatic silhouettes that defied gravity were worn on the models, some resembling space suits of the future, and others more ethereal sculptures. Irrescent fabrics and metallic finishes seemed to provide some sort of otherworldly sheen to the collection. Headwear became integrated into the ensemble, with elaborate geometric structures crowning the models’ heads. William Fan provided a feast for the eyes—a real treat for the soul, to believe in the power of fashion to erase the line between art and dress. Rianna + Nina: The design duo with Rianna Capri and Nina Pawlowska presented a very relatable collection to people all over the world. This show in the sun-kissed courtyard of Prenzlauer Berg was really an homage to diversity and inclusion. Their garments were kaleidoscope color against the canvas of whitewashed brick walls with prints inspired by traditional African textiles. Silhouettes are comfortable and stylish, ranging from a wide scope of body types to ethnicities. Rianna + Nina’s show was like a breath of fresh air—really bringing the notion back that fashion ought to include and empower everyone. Malaika Raiss: This young star, of Moroccan origin, came with a collection inspired by her origins. The show took place in a historical dance hall in Charlottenburg and therefore remained an homage to timeless elegance reinterpreted. Luxuriant fabrics—the likes of silks and satins—streamed down the models’ bodies, draping intricate embroidery reminiscent of traditional Moroccan craftsmanship. The color palette was warm and inviting and consisted of earthy tones with jewel-toned accents reflective of Raiss’s rich heritage. Then came the bridal gown, all in white and delicately accented by intricate gold embroidery, endlessly applauded by an audience enchanted by its beauty. Malaika Raiss reminded us that, in a pointed way, one’s cultural heritage might be tapped richly to create stunning and sophisticated design.   To be continued…
