 Chittara Dusshera Festival Bazaar

Chittara Dusshera Festival Bazaar

Chittara Dusshera Festival Bazaar FEEL ETHNIC IN THE CITY  Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, situated in the heart of the garden city, Bangalore, is a beautiful, vibrant premise that bestows authenticity and tradition in its purest form. It is a landmark for visual culture in the city and the state that comprises a network of Museums, Galleries and Archives. It is not only a visual discoursed space for artists from all over the globe but also hosts one of the finest art colleges in the city. Established in 1960 by Mr M Arya Murthy, this centre enriches the manner in which art history is perceived and serves as a learning space for students and visitors reflecting the passion of those who contribute to its establishment. Karnataka Chithrakala Parishat brings to us ‘ CHITTARA ’ – one of the finest shopping bazaars in town from 27th to 7th October providing us with a heart-pleasing shopping experience from over 100 stores that offer exclusive handcrafted products designed and crafted by local artisans. Serving as a therapeutic retail experience you will find everything from colorful lamp shades and festive mud diyas to beautiful black pottery kitchenware and handcrafted home décor products. Further ahead is a highlight on all the aspects that we as viewers were enthralled by. CLOTHING Clothes in today’s world are not just fabrics but an expression of emotions.  An enormous diversity of clothes from all over India were made available at the stalls in the event. Not only did the soft silk apparel make our hearts happy, but also the interlocked knotted jute from Telangana attracted our minds. Beautifully dyed and fabricated Kashmiri shawls and Handloom sarees with kurtas also made a significant presence alongside western apparel. HANDCRAFTED PIECES Indicating Handcraft skills that we INDIANS are known for, the stalls presented a beautiful display of lampshades right after the entrance. All the hard work and creativity put in by the Rajasthani artisan caught the sight of the crowd having them awestruck. The lamps were crafted using colored glass pieces over a plain glass structure making it a product of emphasis that we all would want to use in places of decorative lighting. This was indeed one of the most attractive stalls at the event. We got an insight on how copper and brass antiques of Uttar Pradesh were manually made and sold at reasonable prices ranging from 250 – 20,000 rupees. We were amazed by the little things made by the disabled kids from the Fatima Handicap Welfare Trust (NGO). It certainly proved that the kids might be disabled physically but are blessed with creative minds making them an asset for our country. Having the pleasure to watch the crowd buy their products indicated their helpful nature and their respect towards humankind. We also saw some wall art made using 100% organic materials like colors extracted from vegetables, stones or even wood pulp. Their prices varied depending on the design and handwork put in by the artisans. FOOD AND FESTIVITIES Food being the aesthetic factor of Indian culture is predominantly a mélange of spices and flavors. Akin to its cultural and linguistic diversity, Indian cuisines vary from state to state. Spicy, flavorful condiments like pickles and papads that are commonly eaten with everyday meals added a traditional essence alongside savory dishes like ‘son papad’ and ‘kaju barfi’. The stalls displayed a variety of festive food including Indian spices. We as visitors enjoyed the pickles that had been prepared at its place of origin by the ladies. These condiments were carried all the way from Uttar Pradesh or Rajasthan and had mind-blowing flavors of its land. Food, however, might be piquant, others less too, but they are all colorful and enticing. We came across a stall who’s lady had displayed her skills in the form of beautiful diyas and other Diwali decor that were highly fascinating. Festivities always enhance the essence of tradition and culture that any cultural initiative attempts to provide. FURNITURE AND ACCESSORIES Furniture can be a product of design and is also considered a form of decorative art. In India, it not only plays a functional role but also serves a symbolic and religious purpose. The stalls showcased finely handcrafted furniture made using a variety of woodworking joints which reflected the local culture. Indian artisans make use of natural objects such as a tree, stumps, rocks and moss. Everything starting from terracotta and antique to beautiful metal crafted furniture was being sold. In addition to that, accessories like flower vases, fiber baskets, wall hangings like dream catchers and wind chimes; and handmade jewelry of Odisha and Assam provided an enthralling experience to the crowd. Jewelry that is handcrafted instead of being machine made are considered special and dear to our hearts as the kind of hard work put in by the individuals is respected and cherished by all. All of these products not only deck up our living, but also ramp up our style. That’s not all! The exhibition also had a wide range of vintage carpets, paintings, ceramic pots, organic bath, body products and much more that provided a pleasing shopping experience to one and all present there. – BY YOGITA, DRISHTI AND PREKSHA

 JW Marriott’s Dessert Paradise

JW Marriott’s Dessert Paradise

JW Mariott’s Dessert Paradise JW Marriott, situated at the most happening locality of Bengaluru — Lavelle Road, has six eateries in the whole. Out of these 6,  Bengaluru Baking Company is what connects to us the most, as our team is full of sweet-toothed people. Hence, we call this place the JW Marriott’s Dessert Paradise. (Psst, they have Zomato Gold here!) Since we know this place so well, there’s no need for us to even call for the menu, we know our orders by heart. So let’s dig in! OUR ORDER From the APPETIZERS, Nachos and cheese We wanted to order, meen and chips, but the lady serving us told that there would be bones in the fish, so we decided to make nachos. Nachos has always been our best gossip buddy. Nothing can go wrong with this one. It’s full of surprises as each place has a different choice of toppings and a unique way of plating it up. Also, the nachos is BBC’s specialty and most people recommend this. For the MAIN COURSE, we chose from PASTA, Arrabiata Oh, my, this was so delicious! It was cooked in tomato sauce, garnished with basil and chili flakes. Nothing makes us happier than good food. The pasta definitely took us to cloud nine. The moment finally arrived and we ordered our favorite course — DESSERTS, Chocolate praline The praline not only looks appetizing but also tastes so scrumptious. We had never tried anything apart from the Red Velvet at BBC. This time we decide to order something different and go out of our palate zone. We were not at all disappointed. In fact, we are going to make this our regular order, too. That’s how much we loved it. It was the right balance of sweet and gooey. Red Velvet Yay, our champion was on the table and now there was no more talking, only fighting! Fighting for what? To get more bites of it. Each time we wonder how could they have perfected this art — the art of having made it so soft. The icing on the cake is their marvelous cream frosting that’s made in-house   HYPE METER: CATEGORY RATING REMARKS FOOD ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Menu is small as it’s a bakery and not a restaurant, but they do an amazing g job at whatever they cater. DESSERT ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The best we’ve tried, especially red velvet. DRINKS We haven’t tried. AMBIENCE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Al fresco available. The entrance looks so grand and alluring, you can’t miss it. Spicy Sangria

Spicy Sangria

Spicy Sangria THE LAVISH EXHIBIT Shopping for an event? Wedding? Engagement? Bridesmaid? Mehendi Ceremony? Sangeeth? Birthday party? Fancy brunch? Dinner date? Meeting your boyfriend’s family for the first time? Or you might be someone like us who don’t need an occasion to shop. For all of your excuses to shop, Spicy Sangria Events had the brands to provide. They hosted a lavish exhibit at Shangri La on this 21st of September where so many budding designers had displayed. As soon as we entered, all we could think of was where the scrumptious smell was coming from. But we couldn’t spot the stall as there was so much crowd around it. We had to wait for more than 15 minutes and that’s when we could finally see what laid ahead of us — Isn’t the picture enough to make you wonder how well they must’ve tasted! Before we could kick-start our shopping trail, we stuffed ourselves with some good delicacies. This stall was by the best confectionery artist ever, Pooja Bajaj. We couldn’t stop adoring how dedicated she was to her work. She was busy from the time we entered till we left. When we entered the ballroom, there were so many stalls that our heads were literally spinning. But as we started walking, we noticed how different each stall was from each other, yet so similar. There were certain stalls we could skip through as they had garments we’ve already seen before. But there were quite a few stalls that stood out from the rest of the exhibition. ‘Fancy Pants – The Store’ has become a go-to place for western outfits for most young girl’s. Their team sources garments that are meant to peek everyone’s interest. By now the ballroom was filled and it was literally getting impossible to move around. But, we couldn’t end our exploration in the middle, so we quickly analysed each store and kept moving forward. That’s when we found Aapro, the most fun stall at the event. They had fusion-wears which were a combination of sarees and dhotis, western garments with Indian prints, sarees that can be worn as a dress and many more. Then we stumbled upon Essemm, the stall that customizes clutches and footwear for brides. These guys are the ones you need if you’re a bride-to-be. After our marathon around the massive ballroom of Shangri La, we picked up some delicacies from Pooja to get back home and relish. While we were heading back home, we saw the beautiful décor at Shangri LA’s entrance. We found out that it’s their 3rd anniversary in Bengaluru. Hence, we’d like to congratulate them on making it so far. Their standards have never let any anyone down, rather they always surprise you with unexpected services. SteppinOut Pop Shop

SteppinOut Pop Shop

SteppinOut Pop Shop SteppinOut had recently hosted a pop shop at Indiranagar Club which was nothing short of a fashion and food market. I couldn’t help but groove to the mellow karaoke songs in the background while I sipped on a beer and looked around the stalls. Each stall was so different that I couldn’t hold myself back from buying everything I saw. The stalls that allured me the most were — the first one being in the entrance itself — The Bag Lab, Bengaluru. Every clutch here was very unique and had intricate work happening on it. If you’re a sucker for detailed work, then this is something to treasure. I couldn’t stop admiring how beautiful each piece was made. When I turned to my right, I found a stall that looked really vibrant. I walked into it and was instantly greeted by the masterminds behind this brands, a couple that’s working together to supply the best products into the fast-paced market. They gave me a demo of how their products came to life. It all happens on their website that functions by the suggestions of a couple of designers. One can customize their bags and lamps according to the material they prefer, the color scheme and pattern they would like. Also, for a bag, they get to choose whether they want a sling or not and whether they want a bag handle or not. The customer gets to pick every bit of the product according to his whims. The best part is that the customer doesn’t face the “is this combination I’ve chosen well?” because the customer keeps getting updated with the suggestions of the designers on board. You don’t like a product we’ve created? You can always return it back. That’s how much confidence they have in their workmanship as it’s all hand painted. The next one that I liked was the Chicas stall. This stall had the most trending bags especially the Kardashian’s iconic, transparent bag. I was so tempted to buy all their bags, they had such classic handles and clean finishing. After all these external shopping, I had to get some small bites for my hunger. I turned around to find Morsel of Memories. A bakery stall by Tanupriya. She had her special Red velvet brownie cheesecake samples laid out. It tasted so good, I can’t stop salivating while I write about it. I love all organic handmade products! Every time I find products that smell good, I jump right into it. I found a stall named Svashudhi who makes soaps, shampoos, hair oil, packs and lotions. I can’t wait to try a few products I picked up from her. If they work well for me, I’ll definitely be bringing in more information about this. The stall that was my personal favourite and the stall I actually was looking forward to the whole day was Mohrang by Ria. Her outfits are a fusion Indo-western wear, which is really contemporary. The detailed stitching always has me in awe for her garments. Towards the end, while I grabbed some beer and got some food to eat, I stumbled upon a different kind of stall — Bayu. They transform natural threads, vegetable dyes, handwoven and unconventional textiles into responsibly made fashion and lifestyle creations. After this, I called it a day and took back some great products home. I am definitely coming back for more such pop shops.

As sublime as it can get, Kashi cafe is a place where one can enjoy great food with tastefully curated pieces of art the surrounds the space. Nestled in the charming burger street, Kashi Art Cafe is a gem of a place started by Anoop Scaria & Dorrie Younger in an old Dutch house in 1977. The house was renovated to its present aesthetically-pleasing form in 2012 by Edgar Pinto, who then took up the ownership of the cafe. On a pleasantly bright day, if one is in fort Kochi, they can undoubtedly head to Kashi café. It can be an introverts rendezvous or a great choice of place for a cozy hangout spot for friends! There is a generous amount of light that fills in the semi-courtyard like setting with wooden chairs and tables infused with a cozy-casual vibe along with tasteful melodies playing in the background. As charming as the ambiance is, the food does not disappoint either! The café has been known to serve fine-fresh food, mainly breakfast /brunch/evening munchies. Popular choices of the people in the café are those delicious sandwiches which are made out of Freshly home-baked bread and cheese with strong coffee and various detoxifying drinks.
