COVID-19 AFFECTING THE MET GALA

Corona Virus seems to have affected the whole world, alas the fashion industry too. Met Gala which was called Costume Institute Gala is a fund-raising event of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City that is hosted every year in the month of May. Different designers display their work as garments that are worn by different celebrities and this helps the Museum raise funds. This year’s theme for the Met Gala was “About Time: Fashion and Duration”, but due to COVID-19, it is being postponed to further dates. Anna Wintour who leads the chairmanship at the costume institute since the 90’s announced – “Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will be postponed to a later date,” the editor wrote in a letter. The Met’s website announced, “The Met’s priority is to protect and support our visitors, staff, and volunteers, and we have been taking several proactive precautionary measures, including discouraging travel to affected areas, implementing rigorous cleaning routines, and staying in close communication with New York City health officials and the Centers for Disease Control.” An official date hasn’t been announced to reschedule the event and everyone just has to take a seat back and wait to experience the work of art in the form of garments by the designers. -By Preeti Karia.  COVID-19 AFFECTING THE MET GALA

Met Gala at Bangalore? Yes, it’s for real!

All Ladies league, Bangalore organised a super bowl of fashion league where women from this group held a fashion show. ALL LADIES LEAGUE has a unique vision of connecting women across the globe and nurturing the cause of women in as many diverse ways as possible. The overarching aim is to create a worldwide web of women to support and empower one another, beyond boundaries. The event was curated by Chairperson Minnku Buttar, Vice Chairperson Khushboo Nagpal with their team Viju Chatterjee, Preeti Sundar, Meenakshi, Tina, Gayathri and over 20+ designers with their muses were present. The theme was Exaggeration, Flamboyant and stunning Avant-Garde Attires, Re- created from their existing wardrobe which could lead to a vision of Re-Purpose, Re-Use and Re-Cycle. A panel discussion was led by Minnku Buttar with Pramod Adhikari and Ally Mathan as panelists to address the growing concerns about the problem and some possible solutions for the same. Renu Suresh by Srishthi Jaiswal  This asymmetrical contemporary dress, designed by Srishthi Jaiswal on behalf of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, was inspired by the muse Renu, who exemplifies the traits of a modern woman. She is adaptable to change and is ready to move on with the times, yet holding onto her traditional values. Keeping this in mind, the garment features traditional silhouette with a modern style line. The garment reflects the values associated with the muse – Mrs. Renu, a scholar, who got married at a young age, adapted to this change with flair and balances her life of a proud homemaker, a happy wife and a mother of three delightful children without losing her identity. She is now the queen of her house as well. The contemporary dress is asymmetrical keeping in mind the body type and age of the client. The overall look of the garment is sophisticated red carpet. The colours used for the garments are; black, as it represents strength, authority, sophistication and elegance; whereas, the colour beige, represents flexibility and reliability, as the inspiration herself. The fabrics used for the creation of the garment harnesses sustainability and zero wastage, wherein the outfit was created from an old table runner and a 25-year-old sari. Since, both the materials were lying idle they were given a new lease of life and were utilised to the maximum, with minimal wastage. The black, hand embroidered sari was converted into an asymmetrical dress and the beige table runner adds softness and style to the look. In addition to the dress, the long sleeve was made out of net fabric to add exaggeration. A pant was created to be worn over the sari dress, to complete the look. The ensemble is created in two parts which can be worn as separate pieces as well. To add to the styling aspect of the outfit, Accessories from the brand Begada were used. The handcrafted, innovative and modern designs jewelry added glamour to the entire look. The bejeweled ear cuffs added sparkle whereas the statement ring made innovatively curated by Begada team gave a bold definition to the hands. The accessories were brilliantly crafted. The evening ended with a High-tea at the Ritz-Carlton with all the glitz and glam of the gala. [envira-gallery id=”3456″]

Can You Hear The Wedding Bells?

Can You Hear The Wedding Bells?

Can You Hear The Wedding Bells? If you were Priyanka Chopra, a woman that held the title “Miss World 2000” and got a break in Hollywood, who holds a Padma Shri and is named one of the “100 most influential and powerful people in the world”, what would you wear at your wedding? A wedding with a sensational male singer from Hollywood, something that the entire world is looking forward to. Who would’ve thought that a little girl who was put down so much would end up being a worldwide icon! Her story to us, The Style.world, and many others is a true inspiration. We’ll tell you why. It’s not just the racial discrimination battle that makes her stand apart, but the fact that she was born in Jamshedpur to parents who were physicians in the Indian Army. Due to her parents demanding job, Priyanka had to keep moving from place to place with them which she took up so positively as a learning experience. It would’ve been nothing less than a skirmish to break all the restrictions and barriers created at home to come through and follow her passion. When everyone around you is mocking you for the way you are, it’s not a cakewalk to work as hard as you want to. Despite which PC kept her composure and continued focusing on herself. The more hate she got, the harder she concentrated on her work. Probably, that’s her secret to success? Turning such hateful comments into something positive. An Indian woman mocked by many at one point or the other has made all them now fallen in love with her series, Quantico. After the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan, it’s probably PC’s wedding that will draw attention from all parts of the world. She is getting married to Nick Jonas, an American singer that started off his career at a very young age of 7. He became an ideal dream boy of every little girl since the time he made his appearance on the Disney Channel. PC again chooses a tough path, a 36-year-old marrying a 25-year-old. This proves how much she’s willing to go for the one she loves. Also, she’s setting a standard for the notion — ‘age is just a number.’ But we’re left with one confusion. What is she wearing for her wedding? Recently she got engaged and she wore a simple Punjabi suit. Is she going to have a low-key wedding or a lavish one? Is she planning on wearing a Sabyasachi or Manish Malhotra lehengas, or she’s going for an international haute couture?     We are leaning more towards an International Haute Couture. We will give you our reasons. Since the time she’s moved towards the Hollywood,  she has been dressing in Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Dion Lee, Ganni, Vivienne Westwood, Prabal Gurung, Emilio Pucci and many more such labels.     She walked at the Met Gala in a never worn before piecing by Ralph Lauren. Despite having gotten so much criticism for her outfit in her first Met Gala, she was brave enough to try something out of the box.     What she wore for the Royal Wedding, as Meghan’s best friend, was by Dior, an outfit that was loved by everyone.     However, we’re still confused and eager to know. She might get married twice, once in traditional Punjabi style here in her hometown and once at Nick Jonas’ hometown in a Christian wedding ceremony. No matter what she wears, she’s going to do it in a way that’s ahead of times. She’s going to have to make a mark as there are a lot of other celeb weddings lined up. What do you guys think?
