Prateik Smita Patil & Priya Banerjee Tie Marital Knot At Late Mother’s House

Actor Prateik Smita Patil, son of late actress Smita Patil and actor Raj Babbar, tied the matrimonial knot at his late mother’s home with Canadian Actress Priya Banerjee . Actors Prateik Smita Patil and Priya Banerjee’s romance, from the chance encounter to an intimate wedding, seemed like a cosmic coincidence. Though they lived a few blocks away from each other and had common friends, their lives never intersected until the time was right. A random Instagram DM by Patil during the lockdown resulted in a spontaneous drive, which soon turned into a four-hour-long chat. Banerjee was immediately attracted to his honesty and humility, laying the groundwork for a bond of great depth. Three years into their relationship, Patil had finally decided to propose. The Proposal: With a bespoke solitaire trinity ring that represented their past, present, and future, he meticulously scripted every detail. He originally planned to propose during a secluded birthday dinner, but a sudden flash of insight prompted him to act two days sooner, in the privacy of their home—where they’d made some of their fondest memories. Half-asleep herself, Banerjee awoke to the sight of him down on his knee, offering a passionate proposal that took her a few seconds to properly acknowledge. The couple, while deciding on their wedding, had taken into account their engagement anniversary but had opted for an earlier date instead—February 14, 2025—coinciding with Banerjee’s parents’ trip from Canada. The location was still undecided when a dream sequence featuring Patil’s deceased mother, the great actress Smita Patil, provided Banerjee with clarity. Her residence, which had always been a comfort and nostalgic place for Patil, became the logical choice so that they could celebrate her presence on their most special day. Planning The Wedding: It was not an easy task to organise a wedding within only two months, but with help from intimate family and friends, they fashioned a celebration that reflected their very individuality. Celebrity stylist Aastha Sharma designed a wedding that balanced tradition with personality. The celebrations started off with a mehendi ceremony at Grand Hyatt Mumbai, with Banerjee looking radiant in a scarlet Devnaagri lehenga, with intricately carved Tribe Amrapali jewelry adding a touch of glamour, and Patil supporting her in red kurta and open jacket. They got hitched on Valentine’s Day at an intimate ceremony held for 40 close friends. Transforming Wedding Location: Portraits of Smita Patil and Patil’s maternal grandparents loomed behind the deconstructed mandap, filling the space with a deep feeling of presence and blessings. Personal flourishes were extended across the board—from personalized stationery by Akanksha Negi to a woman braiding fresh gajras and a pet-inspired signature cocktail menu with Rocco and Chico being the muses. Culinary encounters crafted by The Big Zest’s Rohan Manglorkar brought their blended cultural heritage and world travels together on a plate, and Le 15’s Pooja Dhingra crafted an over-the-top dessert platter. Live concerts by Urgen Yolmo and Kamakshi Rai wafted through the air with Bollywood songs and romantic ballads, leading up to an ad-hoc dance party in the living room. Prateik Smita Patil & Priya Banerjee Tie In contrast to the flashy Bollywood-style weddings, theirs was rich in sacred rituals that celebrated their journey together. Designer Tarun Tahiliani designed custom-made attire for the duo—Banerjee was a vision in an adorned fishtail skirt and a tailored corset, a signature draped veil, and polki-emerald jewelry by Khurana Jewellery House. Patil wore a draped shirt, a sherwani jacket, and a dhoti with a kamarband, looking subtly elegant. Their venue was made otherworldly by Bling Mushrooms’ Pritie Jain, decked out in white, layered fabrics, and flowers. Mangalsutra of Sonali Banerjee Priya’s Mangalsutra is made up of Smita Patil’s earrings, which were meant to be worn by her post-Prateik’s birth. In honor of his mother, Prateik converted the earrings into a symbol of love and remembrance, paying homage to Smita’s existence as they set out on this new journey of their lives. Smita, the iconic actress, had planned on wearing those earrings after the birth of Prateik, but sadly she died. To keep her memory close and near, Prateik chose to get the earrings converted into Priya’s Mangalsutra so that his mother’s spirit would be present with them on their wedding day. Later, the guests proceeded to the suite of the couple for an after-party, where Patil and Banerjee dressed in monogrammed pajamas with their wedding hashtag, #priyaKAprateik. Their names—Priya, symbolizing love, and Prateik, symbolizing symbol—beautifully defined what their union represented: a timelessness that symbolized love, destiny, and memories forever cherished.
