How can Fitness Enthusiasts Prepare for New Career Opportunities

How can Fitness Enthusiasts Prepare for New Career Opportunities

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. – John F. Kennedy Fitness has developed both as a lucrative business opportunity and a sustainable career option. Those were the time when ‘bodybuilding’ was in vogue. Today the concept of fitness has seen a revolutionary transformation. Physical fitness is not just about looking good, but it is also about staying healthy and leading a fit and active life. The purpose of attaining a healthy body seems simple enough, yet it is not so. One has to pursue and follow a regular and strict fitness regime to achieve this objective. Set your Goal There are a variety of options you can opt-in the health and wellness industry, no matter what the area you decide to specialise in. Firstly, you should understand which path is right for you and then consider what you want your day-to-day life to look like. Decide whether you want to work full-time or part-time, would like to work for yourself or for a company, want to operate alone or with a team. Whatever the goals are, you must have a passion in you to do that. Become a Certified Trainer Once you complete your basic education, you need to get certified. Certification is especially important if you want to become a pro. You get certified from various associations and organisations depending upon the country you live in. If you intend to teach a specific type of class such as yoga, Spinning, or Pilates, then the specialisation in that particular field is mandatory. Leverage your Social Media Using correct social media tools can ace your game like no other. The emergence of social media has amplified the people’s reach, not just from the networking point of view but also from the business perspective. Today, there are many fitness enthusiasts who are shifting from their conventional careers in order to follow their passion for fitness. Marketing yourself and your brand on social media is the fastest and cheapest way to get your name in front of potential clients. Remember, the content needs to be reliable and that there needs to be plenty of it to engage your audience. So if you’re also thinking about starting a career in the fitness industry, here are different opportunities in this exciting and rewarding profession. Nutrition Professional Nutrition is a complex and expanded study of how food affects the body. For several people, it is confusing to decide exactly how to eat and attain optimal health. Here the role of Nutrition professional comes in. A nutrition professional assists clients with guidance and coaching that helps them navigate healthy, tailored eating plans and make meaningful changes. Fitness Tech Engineer Designing fitness tech equipment is all about finding solutions to real-world problems: smelly workout gear, finicky fitness trackers, and sore muscles. All that device or gears, all are inspired by athletes—but it takes engineers to bring it to life. Fitness Instructor The fast-paced modern lifestyle has led to an incomprehensible amount of physical and psychological stress on the human body and mind. Consequently, the demand for trained fitness instructors has increased manifold. Being a successful personal trainer or instructor demands knowledge in a number of diverse subjects, including anatomy and physiology, psychology, and nutrition too. Fitness Instructors also design an exercise program for their clients. It requires knowing which exercises can help a client achieve his or her individual goals, as well as having the ability to help clients establish healthy habits to adhere to their programs. They function in diversified settings and assist clients in moving toward long-term health and wellness. Fitness Entrepreneur Taking the plunge and starting your own fitness business can be a spooky prospect, especially if you are doing it for the first time. Understand that your love of fitness needs to be matched with some business savvy for the same. You will require immense knowledge of fitness and health as it is crucial to running a successful business. Also, the more knowledge and training in business administration a person has, the more their chances for success increase. Fitness Apparel Designer Apparel designers in fitness industries are the ones behind those sweat-wicking shorts you love to wear, and those knee-weakening flattering yoga pants. Apparel designers at big brands like Reebok, Adidas, Nike, and Under Armour often have fashion backgrounds and many with specialised design degrees from colleges. Their day-to-day work includes meetings with cross-functional teams, spying market trends, researching, sketching, and (most importantly) working out—so they can know first-hand what clothes need to do in the gym. To be successful in the fitness industry, you have to always be on your toes and engage in continuous education. So if you are a fitness enthusiast who loves to transform people lives through hitting it hard, go ahead and spread the joy by entering the adrenaline-pumping in the career realm of fitness. Enjoy Stunning Coastal Views

Enjoy Stunning Coastal Views

Roman philosopher Seneca once said, “Travel and change of place impart new vigour to the mind.” In a time of social distancing and quarantine, we invite you to quench your travel quest with some of America’s most beautiful coastal views – no packing required! Go USA has launched a six-week interactive virtual road trip on its social networks to enable users to discover the United States like never before. By following along on Facebook and Instagram, audiences can participate in quizzes, surveys, and polls each day to determine the next stops on the road trip as it covers all 50 states, five territories, and the District of Columbia. Starting May 8th, the virtual road trip will be cruising through the U.S. territories, including Guam, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Here’s some additional travel inspiration in advance of the trip. Don’t forget to follow along! Guam With an average temperature that ranges between 26 – 30 degrees Celsius, it’s always beach weather on the Pacific Ocean island of Guam, a U.S. territory since 1950. There are only two seasons: dry (December through June) and rainy (July through November). The island has 4,000 years of history and more than 130 sites on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the place “where the U.S.’s day begins,” the island of Guam is, quite literally, the first piece of U.S. land to experience the sunrise each day. Popular among visitors for its breathtaking tropical beauty, Guam is a road-tripper’s paradise with new flavours, adventures and discoveries around every turn. The Chamorro Village is a major draw for locals and tourists for its Wednesday night market. American Samoa Located in the southwest Pacific, midway between Hawai’i and New Zealand, the Samoan archipelago has been inhabited for more than three millennia—but Europeans only ‘discovered’ it in the 18th century. Late in the 19th century, Samoa was split, and the U.S. absorbed the eastern part. American Samoa is a territory, not a state, consisting of five islands and two coral atolls. For culture-loving visitors, American Samoa is a magical experience. Aside from the introduction of Christianity in the 19th century, the culture remains much as it has for 3,000 years. Aiga, or the extended family, is the core of society. Elders and village chiefs, known as matai, are deeply respected. Samoan is spoken by more than 90 percent of natives. Locals are often seen wearing lavalava (sarong) or puletasi (patterned skirt and tunic), performing a siva (Samoan dance), cooking in an umu (earth oven) and drinking milk directly from a fresh coconut. Fun Fact: Movie star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is part Samoan on his mother’s side! U.S. Virgin Islands A territory of the United States since 1917, the U.S. Virgin Islands are an exotic group of islands located in the Caribbean Sea. The United States Virgin Islands is comprised of three principal islands – St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas – plus 50 smaller islands, cays and islets that are part of the Caribbean archipelago. Trunk Bay, an award-winning beach, is exactly what you picture when you think tropical paradise. The dreamy land and seascapes have earned the U.S. Virgin Islands the nickname “America’s Paradise.” A year-round destination that has no real “off” season with an average winter temperature of 28 degrees celsius (slightly higher in the summer), here the weather is almost always beach perfect. The U.S. Virgin Islands are famous for its beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise waters. With a tapestry of West Indian, African, European, and American influences you’ll be sure to experience the diversity. Go USA focuses on inspiring travellers to experience the country’s vibrancy, culture and infinite possibilities unlike anywhere else in the world. Go USA takes travellers on engaging journeys across the vast geography of the United States through immersive storytelling and programming that caters to diverse passion points. Using entertainment to showcase unique attractions, fun road trips and themed experiences ranging from music and art to culinary and adventure plus everything in between, Go USA offers an inventive take on travel guides while highlighting great seasonal promotions as an added consumer resource. HarperCollins will Publish their New Book on Harry and Meghan

When news of the budding romance between a beloved English prince and an American actress broke, it captured the world’s attention and sparked an international media frenzy. But while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to make headlines—from their engagement, wedding, and birth of their son Archie to their unprecedented decision to step back from their royal lives—few know the true story of Harry and Meghan. For the very first time, FINDING FREEDOM goes beyond the headlines to reveal unknown details of Harry and Meghan’s life together, dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond. As members of the select group of reporters that cover the British Royal Family and their engagements, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand have witnessed the young couple’s lives as few outsiders can. With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, FINDING FREEDOM is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world. Omid Scobie is a London-based writer, royal editor for Harper’s Bazaar, an ABC News contributor, “Good Morning America” regular and host of ABC’s popular royal podcast, “The Heir Pod.” Scobie has become an authoritative voice on the lives and philanthropic endeavors of the Royal Family’s younger members and maintains strong access to the Sussexes’ working world. Carolyn Durand is an Emmy Award winning producer and writer who has spent nearly two decades working in London covering Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Clarence House and other major international events. During that time, she produced multiple interviews with members of the Royal Family including Prince Harry. “The aim of this book is to portray the real Harry and Meghan, a couple who continue to inspire many around the world through their humanitarian and charitable work but are often inaccurately portrayed. Our mission has been motivated by a desire to tell an accurate version of their journey and finally present the truth of misreported stories that have become gospel simply because of the amount of times they have been repeated. It is thanks to our sources that we have been able to share the definitive story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” say Scobie and Durand. VP and Editorial Director Carrie Thornton of Dey Street Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group at HarperCollins, negotiated the deal with Albert Lee of United Talent Agency. The book is slated for release in summer 2020 and will also be published by HQ in the UK & Commonwealth. The book will also be published by HarperCollins in Holland, Italy and Spain. Five tips for mental well-being

Five tips for mental well-being

How does one stay sane in pressing situations? Life is always throwing us some or the other, and we feel as though we are always drowning. So what happens when an unexpected pandemic hits us and the entire world at the same time? Where the life you once knew does not exist anymore? Here are some ways you can deal with anxiety and maintain mental happiness when you feel thrown out of your comfort zone: Continue a routine that feels familiar: We may not have access to the foods we want or the people we want to meet, but the one thing we have is a familiar routine. Continue to follow the routine you always have, so it gives you a sense of comfort. If you are in the familiarity of your home, you will feel more at ease. If you are not, follow the old routine you used to follow and you will get used to the new space you are in. Focus your attention on hobbies/ passions/ something you could never do: An idle mind is a devil’s workshop. It is essential for you to focus your nervous/ anxious energy on something we enjoy. This could be a hobby, reading a book, watching a documentary, cooking, gardening, or anything that brings you peace and joy. Even if you are in a small space, find something valuable to do for one hour of your day. Gratitude journal: This method has been tried and tested and has worked wonders with people! When we focus our energy on noticing the positives in our life, that part of our life tends to grow. Similarly, when we focus on the negative, we give ‘that’ part of our life fuel to grow too! At the start or end of your day, write 3-5 things that you are grateful for. It can be the smallest of things like good health, to important things like a roof over your head, food to eat, a bank balance, etc. This helps shift your energy in a more positive direction. Meditate: Many struggle with this and even though this is a recommended method for Mental Wellbeing, not everyone can practice it. I would recommend to put on some soothing music from YouTube, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. By closing your eyes for those few minutes, you are shutting out the world – the outside noise, phone calls, computer/phone screen, and just being with yourself. Each time you get distracted by thoughts, bring your focus back to your breathing. Practice this for a few minutes in a day. Physical movement: It is scientifically proven that during exercise or any physical activity, there are some feel-good hormones like serotonin that are released. So if you’re feeling down, just do a quick 30-minute workout or yoga session. This will really boost those endorphins and automatically lift your mood. Even if you practice this 3 – 4 times a week it’s good enough! Light: If you don’t have access to a garden or a roof, ensure that there is enough natural light in your home. If that is not possible, keep the windows open and ensure that you get some amount of sunlight or outside air. Sitting in a dark room tends to get us down. Light always has uplifting energy and is a mood enhancer. Lighting a candle is also helpful. If any of the above doesn’t work for you, I would recommend setting up an appointment with a healer or counsellor. It is essential for us to take care of our mental well-being during difficult times so that we can be there for our family and friends when THEY need us. Make YOU and your own happiness a priority today. Five tips for mental well-being

Loneliness in times of the Coronavirus lockdown

Loneliness in times of the Coronavirus lockdown

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Rohan Solomon is well-known for his role as the front-man of the Delhi-based alt-rock band Cyanide. Rohan recently moved back to the country from New York – with a new trio multi-city trio in place and participation in a Grammy Award Winning track – to the Indian Indie Music Scene and has received a very warm response to his trilogy of track released in 2019 that talk about the growing need to pay heed to the environment, that’s rapidly affecting our living situation. His latest track Keep Holding On, is inspired by the sense of loneliness and uncertainty brought on by the global pandemic Covid-19, which has forced people to stay indoors and socially distant. The song addresses the feelings of exasperation, depression, anxiousness that every one of us is going through, while urging people to keep holding on… (to hope) There will be tomorrow… The video features people from 20 different cities, across nine countries along with artists such as Chezin (Gurgaon, India), Sasha Prendes (New York, USA) and sensation singing TikTok trio The Heichel Sisters (Ohio, USA) among others. The track is sung, composed, produced and mixed by Rohan Solomon and Mastered by Vinnie Pagano (who has worked on a Grammy winning song). The song has a very urban pop feel with a hint of electronic sound. True to Rohan’s style, the track carries a pop chorus and vocal harmony, along with a mixture of electronic drums, synth, live guitars and live percussions. Rohan Solomon is a Singer-Songwriter, Composer, Vocal Coach and Audio Engineer, all rolled into one. Well-known in the Indian Indie Circles as the vocalist of Delhi-based Alt-Rock outfit Cyanide, Rohan started exhibiting his musical abilities at a rather early age. In the era of Channel V Launchpad and the Great Indian Rock Concerts, Cyanide was successful in making its presence felt in significant Indie Rock events of the country, in a short span of time. Rohan moved to New York a few years ago, where he met his soon to be new bandmates – By Chance and the trio of business partners, decided to name themselves after their fortuitous coming together for the love of music. During his time in New York, Rohan also was a part of a Grammy Award winning track called Bubblin by Anderson Paak, in the capacity of an assistant engineer. By Chance released its debut single titled Blue Sky earlier in 2019. The single — a part of a three-song series — as luck would have it, took shape after Rohan returned home to Delhi, and pangs of nostalgia for the Blue Sky and pollution free capital city that he grew up in. All the tracks were recorded in the analogue domain. The second track, called Hard to Breathe, enunciates the reality of living in the city of Delhi, which is now always in the ‘unfit air quality’ category. The track is Rohan’s takeaway from an unpleasant real-life situation. It’s got a Hard Rock/Alternative Rock tonality to it, as also a steady melody with pop chorus harmonies and an aggressive rock feel to it. The significance of this track is to give the listeners a bit of a jolt about the alarming state of air pollution, but the tonality of the pop chorus leaves us with a positive note and an affirmation – there is still hope left. Time – the final track of the trilogy released worldwide on October 10th, 2019, concluding the set, by reiterating the need to take action, ‘NOW’ – to save the world we live in, the environment that nourishes life and the air that we breathe… and be mindful to the fact that the time is in fact running out.Loneliness in times of the Coronavirus lockdown [/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BehIt7f6P4&feature=youtu.be”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Protect Yourself from Computer Vision Syndrome

Protect Yourself from Computer Vision Syndrome

The current situation does not allow for us to move out as frequently and as necessarily as we used to prior to the lockdown. It is most likely going to continue being like this for a longer time given the current circumstance. At present, one should delay their visit to the Optometrist or Ophthalmologist unless absolutely needed. The same applies to visiting the hospital too. Staying at home is the best solution to contain the spread of the virus. As such taking care of your eyes and your eyewear is necessary. We most often tend to neglect that which is easily available and not expensive; eyewear has become one of those products over the last few years. A lot of people also take sight for granted, as such eye health is often abused. However, taking proper care of your eyes and eyewear at this time will help you avoid any uncomfortable and unnecessary situations. Studies show that the normal blink rate is anywhere between 10-15 times per minute. However, this is reduced to half when using digital devices especially when working on the computer. Also, usage of devices tends to cause more incomplete blinks, so the tear film is not spread across the entire cornea. This leads to screen fatigue or what Optometrists call digital eye strain or computer vision syndrome. How does one recognise computer vision syndrome or digital eye strain? The symptoms are as follows: eye fatigue and discomfort, dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, neck and shoulder pain, eye twitching and red eyes (generally appears because of dryness and eye fatigue). 5 steps to help you recover from or avoid digital eye strain is as follows: Use proper lighting, avoid harsh light or bright light over your work area Minimise glare on computer screens by checking where the reflection is coming from in your surroundings and blocking it. Adjust your computer display setting to match the brightness of the light in your surroundings, change the text size and contrast to what you feel is comfortable and adjust the colour temperature to reduce the harmful blue light emitted from your device. Maintain proper posture; hands in line with your shoulders while using the keyboard and screen in line with your eyes. This will reduce or remove the pain caused in your shoulders and neck. Take at least one 10-minute break every hour. Consciously try to blink more often and if dry eyes persist call your Optometrist to check on easily available lubricants that will assist you with the same. You can even book an online appointment with us and our Optometrist will get in touch with you and guide you as needed. Exercise your eyes by following the 20-20-20 rule which implies for every 20 minutes take a break from your device for 20 secs by directing your gaze 20 feet away from you. If you can’t do this then blink 10 times by closing your eyes like you would when you fall asleep. Do this every 20-30 minutes. Use eyeglasses with protective coatings and lens designs which will help reduce the strain on the eyes and will also cut out the entry of harmful blue light. Consultant your Optician for these solutions. If you have broken your Spectacle Lenses and need a Replacement or have run out of Contact lenses and have no Lens Cleaning Solution, then reach out to us and we will sort you out. Stay home, stay safe. By Hemanth Manay, CEO & Chief Consultant Optometrist, S.R. Gopal Rao Opticians & Optometrists. Protect Yourself from Computer Vision Syndrome

Ideal Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin

Ideal Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin

As we know there are various skin types and every skin has to be looked after differently. Since, summer has arrived therefore people with oily skin must be worried now! So here is a guide and tips to take care of your oily skin during these months when the mercury levels are rising: CLEANSER: Washing face again and again to get rid of oil is a myth! Washing it too much will only make it produce more oil. Washing your face twice in a day is enough. You may also use a gel-based cleanser that contains sulphuric acid, tea tree oil and glycolic. MOISTURIZER: It’s a myth that you shouldn’t use moisturiser if you have oily skin but it is important to apply moisturiser on your face. Moisturisers don’t add moisture on your face but it actually retains skin moisture and prevents excess water loss on your skin. Use a water soluble, light, non-sticky moisturiser that can be easily absorbed in the skin.  SUNSCREEN: Sunscreen act as protection for your skin and prevents worsening of your skin If you already have acne marks, blemishes, scarring then it’s important to apply sunscreen on your face, whether you’re outdoor or indoor. It protects you from all the harmful effects of UV rays.  STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE AGAIN AND AGAIN: Touching your face again and again can invite bacteria on your skin which may lead to more acne and irritation. You may use dry tissues to bloat excess oil from the skin.  WATCH OUT YOUR DIET AND STAY HYDRATED: Avoid eating food that may increase oil secretion in the skin like dairy products, white rice, sweets, etc. and drink ample amount of water to keep the skin detoxified. But there are also foods that would help you escape your acne especially foods with low-glycaemic made of complex carbohydrates, for example – whole grains, legumes, unprocessed foods and vegetables etc. PAMPER YOUR SKIN: Use natural ingredients and DIYs to make your skin feel happy. You can make a face mask by mixing 1 egg white with 1 tsp of lemon juice. Apply it on the face until it dries and then wash your face with warm water followed by pat drying. You can also use honey on the skin since it has good anti-bacterial properties and is beneficial for oily and acne prone skin. You may directly apply it on the face and rinse thoroughly with warm water after 10 minutes. By Lalita Arya, Vice President-Dermapuritys. Ideal Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin
