Amrut Distilleries recently launched Bella, the world’s first ever rum fully distilled on jaggery at an exclusive tasting event held at Zarf. This is a landmark creation for the brand as well as the spirits industry worldwide since it is quintessentially Indian in its roots and craftsmanship.  Amrut’s Revolutionary Jaggery-Distilled Rum

The evening centered around a guided tasting session where the attendees could be introduced to four kinds of rums, which included Bella. The session gave participants the opportunity to explore the distinct flavor profiles characterizing each. Jaggery distilled rum stood out with its rich smooth flavor because it is aged six years in an ex-bourbon barrel, taking after the unique qualities of jaggery used during distillation. The jaggery is sourced from Sahyadri range and Mandya, so it is yet another juggling between local ingredients for Amrut’s distillation process.

This imperial blend is aged for six years in ex-bourbon barrels and intricacy shines on the palate, while subtle and comes alive through jaggery sourced from the fertile Sahyadri range and mineral-rich lands of Mandya. Being a single-origin distillation based on jaggery, it strikes a cord that marks its uniqueness when other rums are either molasses or cane juice-based; it is rightly an acknowledgment to India’s cultural heritage, in an effort to redefine rum globally.

Flavours of Zarf

Instead of merely just conducting the rum tasting, Zarf gave an accompanying menu of food carefully planned to be eaten during the rum tasting session so the complexity of the rums could be savored. With this, the experience for the audience would be multiplied in proving how well food could be paired with drink.

Meet Bella:

She ushered in a pioneering moment not just changing the brand but the global rum industry. Born of a dream from Neelkanta Rao Jagdale, nicknamed the Father of Indian Single Malt, a carrier of foresight and sensitivity for India, it was primed to happen. Sixty-five years after he put this to paper, Rakshit N. Jagdale, son of the illustrious NRJ, had the privilege of bringing his father’s dream to life on the centenary of 75 years at Amrut Distilleries.

We are honored to launch my father’s dream of 100% jaggery rum. This drink is not just a rum-it’s a symbol of our dedication to revive India’s grand tradition of craftsmanship and our relentless pursuit of excellence,” Rakshit N. Jagdale said while speaking at the event.

A single-origin rum based on jaggery, unlike the more common molasses or cane juice-based rums. Amrut Distilleries had envisioned the Bella ‘Fed by Jaggery’ rum courtesy of the scion of the founder, Shri Neelkanta Rao Jagdale’s Rakshit N. Jagdale and is a name that means jaggery in Kannada, a term by which it has been branded, a nod to its Karnataka roots. The occasion went well as Bella was celebrated as a reminder of India’s cultural heritage.
